Instrument Sterilization

Instrument Sterilization

At Open Dental Clinic, patient safety is our top priority. Our medical staff pays special attention to the complete cycle of instrument cleaning and sterilization, as well as to the cleaning and disinfection of all clinical areas.

Today, patient safety during treatment is a key concern in modern dentistry. At Open Dental Clinic, we follow the “Anti-HIV & Anti-Hepatitis Patient Protection Program” — a comprehensive system of measures that includes specialized equipment, sterile packaging, disposable materials, and strict clinical protocols. In clinics that do not practice such systems, there is a significant risk of transmitting viral infections. Our program provides reliable protection against viruses, microbes, toxins, spores, and other harmful agents.

The main stage of the program is the thorough sterilization of all reusable instruments. Instruments are first cleaned in an ultrasonic bath, disinfected in special solutions, sealed in sterilization pouches, and then sterilized in an autoclave. Dental handpieces are also sterilized in specialized autoclaves. Instruments processed and sealed in this way remain sterile for up to one year.

A critical part of the “Anti-HIV & Anti-Hepatitis” program is the sterilization of dental handpieces — the rotating devices that hold burs. If a handpiece is not properly sterilized, tissue debris and dental deposits remaining inside the rotor can be released into the next patient’s mouth, creating a high risk of infection. At our clinic, every handpiece is cleaned, disinfected, and sterilized after each patient using the DAC Universal system.

We also use a modern autoclave manufactured by Sirona (Germany).

Several times a day, the air in our treatment rooms is sterilized with ultraviolet light using a special device.

Following strict separation protocols, each patient is provided with a disposable kit that includes shoe covers, a bib, a plastic saliva ejector, wipes for disinfecting the chair and surrounding equipment, and a disposable tissue. All procedures are carried out with four-handed dentistry — dentist and assistant — both always using disposable gloves and masks.

With these measures, we ensure that our patients are reliably and fully protected.
